About MockServer

What Is MockServer?

MockServer is a hosted HTTP mock API server that lets developers create live, callable endpoints in seconds — no configuration files, no local setup, no Docker containers to manage. You define the path, the response body, the status code, and the headers; MockServer handles the rest and gives you a real URL you can call immediately from anywhere.

Every endpoint you create is instantly reachable over the public internet. You can share read-only links with teammates, inspect incoming traffic in real time, simulate delays to test timeout handling, and use dynamic path parameters like /users/{id} to build realistic API surfaces without writing a single line of server code.

Why We Built It

The idea for MockServer came from a frustration every developer knows well: you are ready to build a feature, but the API it depends on is not ready yet. Maybe the backend team is still designing it. Maybe it is a third-party service you cannot access in your staging environment. Maybe you are building a prototype and spinning up a real API server feels like overkill. Whatever the reason, you are blocked.

The existing solutions felt heavier than the problem. YAML-based tools required learning a new configuration syntax. Local mock servers meant every developer on the team had to run another process. Cloud-based alternatives were built for enterprise teams and priced accordingly. We wanted something that felt as lightweight as opening a browser tab — paste in a JSON response, click a button, get a URL. Done.

MockServer is the tool we wished existed. So we built it and made it free to start.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple: help developers move faster by removing API dependency blockers.

Software development is full of waiting — waiting for APIs to be built, waiting for environments to be provisioned, waiting for third-party sandboxes to be approved. MockServer attacks that wait time directly. When you can stub out any API in under a minute, you stop being blocked and start shipping.

We believe developer productivity tools should be fast to adopt, low in friction, and honest in pricing. That means a genuinely useful free tier, straightforward paid plans, and no bait-and-switch. We make money when teams find enough value to upgrade — and that keeps our incentives aligned with yours.

What Makes It Different

There are other API mocking tools out there. Here is what sets MockServer apart:

Who It's For

MockServer is built for software developers and the teams around them. You will find it useful if you are:

If your work involves HTTP APIs — and these days almost all software does — MockServer has something to offer you.

The Team

MockServer is an indie project. It was designed, built, and is maintained by a small team of developers who use it in their own work every day. We are not backed by venture capital and we do not have a growth team running experiments on you. We are developers who built a tool to solve a real problem, made it available to the world, and are committed to keeping it fast, reliable, and fairly priced.

Being indie means we move carefully and thoughtfully. We add features when they genuinely improve the tool, not to hit a product roadmap. We keep the codebase lean so the service stays snappy. And we listen closely to user feedback because our users are our community — not a metric.
